Dear Music Lover:

Sincere thanks for your subscription and support for the ninth season of the Southern Tier Symphony.  We have some special treats in store for you.

Our opening concerts on October 1 and 2 will deliver examples of great beauty from Italian opera and two fabulous masterpieces by Tchaikovsky and Respighi.

“A Taste of Italy” marks another ‘milestone’ for our orchestra, as we present a group of 72 musicians to accommodate the orchestral instrumentation demands of “Pines of Rome.”  We thank Houghton College for the loan of their celeste and welcome several musicians who are new to our group.

Our board has planned a special fund-raiser, Raise A Howl! ($20) at Rock City Park on Sunday, October 30.  Amid the tasty confections of our cup-cake competition, wine and yummy appetizers, your ‘spirits’ will be lifted by background music that evokes the spooky nature in all of us as you enjoy the always fabulous ambience of a visit “on the rocks.”  Cindy and Dale Smith have really spruced up their wonderful site for our fifth fall party.  Come in costume, if you dare.

See you at the Symphony!

John Whitney
