ORCHESTRA
SEEKS PLAYERS
The
Southern Tier Symphony has announced auditions to be held on Saturday, August
23, 2008 in Olean. The specific need is for string
players, double reeds, and trombones, who would be new to the
orchestra. The audition will be held at
10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at 212 N. Laurens Street (corner of
Second Street).
Wind applicants should come prepared to play two works of contrasting
style. Those musicians who play violin,
viola, cello or bass will be asked to prepare a work, preferably a concerto
movement, of their own choosing. Also, a
particular excerpt will be provided for each stringed instrument and will be
mailed in advance. All applicants will
also perform a brief sight-reading example.
Those string players who plan to audition should call
personnel manager, Tina Skolnik at 716 372-0955 to obtain the excerpt.
Next fall, the
orchestra will begin its sixth season and pays a modest per-service fee to
each member of the group. There are
currently 16 services per season preparing for three concert programs.
The
initial concerts this season, held at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford
and Olean High School, will be in early October. Programs
for the three concerts are listed on the
orchestra web site: <southerntiersymphony.org>.
